(ECNS) — China launched a set of 1:2.5 million lunar geologic atlas on Sunday. It’s the first full high-definition lunar geologic atlas on the planet, offering fundamental map knowledge for future lunar analysis and exploration.
The atlas was collectively compiled by academician Ouyang Ziyuan and researcher Liu Jianzhong from the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese language Academy of Sciences, together with scientists and cartographers from Jilin College, Shandong College, China College of Geosciences (Beijing), the Geological Institute of the Chinese language Academy of Geological Sciences, and the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Pure Sources Analysis of the Chinese language Academy of Sciences. The compilation work started in 2012.
The analysis and compilation crew said that the high-definition lunar geologic atlas is compiled in each Chinese language and English.
The principle map identifies and marks 12,341 affect craters, 81 affect basins, 17 sorts of rocks, and 14 sorts of constructions on the worldwide Moon, which established a classification system for the subcategories of basin building.
