Strikes by catering workers within the coming month will depart passengers flying from Gatwick Airport with easyJet and Tui unable to buy meals and drinks on board, the union behind the motion has claimed.
Asserting a sequence of walkouts, Unite stated the strikes by Dnata Catering workers was as a result of firm’s “unilateral removing of a shift allowance” for all staff final April.
It stated that this has led to all Dnata’s staff receiving a pay reduce of between £1,500 and £2,000 a employee.
Round 100 staff, together with HGV drivers and warehouse staff, will strike from Friday 26 April to Monday 29 April, from Friday 3 Might to Monday 6 Might and from Friday 10 Might to Monday 13 Might.
Unite warned that strike motion will intensify if the dispute isn’t resolved.
The Emirates Group-owned agency has been accused by the union of falsely claiming that Unite agreed to the removing as a part of a deal that noticed the introduction of an evening shift premium.
“Our members have run out of a persistence with Dnata’s double-dealing and blatant dishonesty. Ending the shift allowance in return for an evening premium was by no means a part of the deal and the corporate is aware of that,” stated Unite common secretary Sharon Graham.
“Unite by no means accepts assaults on our members’ jobs, pay or circumstances and Dnata’s staff have their union’s complete backing throughout these strikes.”
Dnata caters for all easyJet flights from Gatwick, with the airline having 200 flights a day throughout busy durations, which means there’ll no meals or drink obtainable on any of the airways’ flights from the airport between these dates.
Unite says that the shortage of foods and drinks will have an effect on easyJet’s income, with the sale of snacks and drinks on flights a serious revenue generator.
Different flights can even be impacted as Dnata caters for a number of different Gatwick-based airways, together with Tui.
A spokesperson for easyJet stated: “We’re conscious of the Unite announcement associated to proposed industrial motion by their members working at Dnata and wish to reassure clients we might be working with Dnata to make sure contingency plans are in place for these dates ought to this motion happen. We urge Dnata and Unite to succeed in an settlement as quickly as attainable.”
The Impartial has contacted Dnata and Tui for remark.
