I have this nagging thought about all this that makes me point to the law enforcement officers who planned this as the biggest issue.
1. You know the worst case scenario is this outcome.
2. You decide to roll with superior force.
3. You do this in a neighborhood full of innocent bystanders, neighbors.
Essentially it’s like picking to have a gun fight in a mall. The suspect was a known quantity, like weather. He is what he is. We know he’s capable of the worst case scenario.
Is this not a willful act on the part of law enforcement to endanger dozens or hundreds of people, to include the officers?
There was a lapse here somewhere in the authority stack that created this sad situation, virtually out of thin air. Whatever planning that was done failed horribly. And I don’t think it was preordained to happen. Law enforcement and the courts could have chosen very different routes to get this guy.
It’s a very sad day and what I think are lots of needless deaths and injuries.
